Advanced Concrete Scanning for Solar Panel Installation at Setia City Mall

Setia City Mall, located in Shah Alam, planned to install solar panels on its rooftop as part of its sustainability initiatives.

Before proceeding, the mall needed to assess the structural integrity of the concrete slab to ensure it could support the weight of the solar panels. The mall’s daily operations should also not be disrupted while completing this assessment.

To tackle this, we utilized our Concrete Scanning Technology, conducting scans at 382 key points across the rooftop. This advanced, non-destructive method provided precise data on the concrete's internal structure, identifying important elements like reinforcements, post-tension cables, and other potential obstructions. The scan was completed efficiently, with no interference in the mall's activities, allowing the project to proceed smoothly.

The rise of solar energy adoption in Malaysia is evident, with more commercial properties, including shopping malls like Setia City Mall, turning to solar panels to reduce energy costs and enhance sustainability. The ability to assess the rooftop’s concrete structure with Xradar™ Concrete Scanning ensured that the solar panels could be safely installed without compromising the building’s integrity. This technology made it possible to carry out the assessment without invasive procedures, such as coring or drilling, which could disrupt operations.
